Once you have been awarded Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) you will be a member of a wonderful profession but your development doesn’t stop there.
You will be a newly qualified teacher (NQT) and will need to complete a 3 term induction period and to meet the Teachers’ Standards.
There are many appropriate bodies for supporting your NQT year and for signing off your successful completion. The school that employs you will have their own arrangements ad preference, and this will be a good question to explore at your interview for your first post.
The Lark offers an NQT induction programme of training that is designed to support Newly Qualified Primary teachers to develop and embed their knowledge and expertise throughout their NQT year.
It aims to provide high quality professional development to NQTs and to provide support to NQTs during their induction period in their progress towards the Teacher Standards, providing a strong foundation for future career development.
Intended impact and outcomes:
- Strong understanding of professional expectations in the first year
- A ‘toolkit’ to meet the demands of the first year in teaching
- Ongoing professional development of classroom practice
- Opportunities for reflection of practice with peers in other school contexts
